Kodaikanal - Princess of hill stations

Today I am going to tell you about the famous hill station, Kodaikanal located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Kodaikanal is otherwise called as the Princess of hill stations. It's Tamil word gives various meanings like The end of forest, The Forest of Creepers, The Forest of Summer and The Gift of the Forest. 


Earlier the Palaiyar tribes lived here, later the English people who ruled India lived here during the hot summer seasons.  Kodaikanal is situated at a height of 2133 metres from sea level. Now let us know about the various tourist places of Kodaikanal.

Thanjavur Brahadeeswarar Temple

Let us today know about the Brahadeeswara temple located in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. It is often called as the big temple as the statues, structures all are built big. This temple was built by the chola king Raja Raja Chola I.  




He was the great ruler who ruled the southern part of India for more than 1000 years. He was born to Parandaka Cholan and Vanavan Mahadevi. His real name was Arulmozhi varman.  He had various titles for his bravery, courage and his administrative skills. This big temple was built by him in 1010 A.D and hence it's age is 1000 years in 2010.

Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is one of the 28 states in India. It is located in southern India and bordered by the Eastern Ghats in the north, the Nilgiri, the Anamalai Hills, and Palakkad on the west, by the Bay of Bengal in the east, the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Strait in the south east, and by the Indian Ocean in the south. It is surrounded by the states Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
